Project description
The project investigated socially shared regulation of learning (SSRL). We found out that to achieve success in individual and collaborative learning tasks, students need to develop skills and strategies for regulating their own learning (SRL), regulating with peers (coRL), and regulating in groups (SSRL). Process data, such as video and trace data, combined with context- and task-specific questionnaires were collected. The main findings are: In collaborative learning students do not recognize the opportunities for SSRL and support is needed for SSRL to be activated; time and adaptation is important in progress of regulation; recognizing social and motivational aspects of collaboration and successful regulation of those is favorable for learning performance. The theoretical advancement of SSRL, along with regulation tool development, have made a major progress to the research field. In practice, teachers benefit from new information on methods for supporting regulated learning.
