Project description
The objective of the UBI Metrics project was to develop for the experimental evaluation of real-world ubiquitous computing (‘ubicomp’) systems a multidisciplinary methodology that would improve external validity. This was pursued with a multidisciplinary research team involving researchers from computer science, cultural anthropology, architecture and economics. The research was bootstrapped with existing discipline specific methods available for evaluating ubicomp systems and the underlying urban pervasive infrastructure. The methods were iteratively refined with empirical data collected from real-world ubicomp system deployments, and subsequently integrated into the resulting multidisciplinary research methodology. The results of the project have been reported in form of 40 scientific papers published in leading journals and conferences. The project has so far contributed to three doctoral dissertations and additional two dissertations are expected to be completed in 2015.
